Being a fatsmoker in times past is not only bad. It’s comfortable too by times. Things outside don’t bother you. Also it is easy for one to feel relaxed. In fact you need a lot of rest as a fatsmoker and Morpheus embrace comes fast once you call upon it.

Those times are gone for now – well at least for me.

Yet those aspects are calling, beckoning by times. That lazy inner self, which offers “sane” thoughts on how it is more healthy and wise and better to rest…

What stops me from falling back into past patterns? My wager.

  1. wager: Finish the 2011 Frankfurt City Triathlon below 3:00:00 hours.
    • In case I fail, I will prepare a menu for 6+ people in star quality worth 1.000+ EURO in ingredients alone (aperitif, wine, meat, fish, truffles,… – luxury at its finest)
    • In case I succeed I will receive a first rate on an Exocet TT bike.
  2. wager: Finish the 2012 Frankfurt Ironman below 12:30:00 hours.
    • In case I fail, I have to pay the second rate (1000+ EURO) for the Exocet from 1. wager myself.
    • In case I succeed, the Exocet from 1. wager is completely mine.

You like a wager?  You consider it impossible, what I am doing? You believe different? You want to support me by adding a wager? Call me, mail me, let’s make something up. No need to make a wager expensive. It’s about the spirit – even if it is just about what someone does.

Take a ride.

  1. VERY INTERESTING Martin. I like this. Am thinking of some good wagers. A few thoughts already, but I want to think some more.

  2. Hmmm…

Hm…

  3. Ja Ja Ja??? 😀

Komm auf, was witziges 🙂 etwas was Du auch posten kannst bei Dir. Das gibt manchen auch etwas Hoffnung, die an sich verzweifeln. Manchmal reicht es zu sehen, dass es geht so wie Du zum Beispiel. 🙂

  4. Hey, really great blog post… I’ve enjoyed reading through your blog because of the great style and energy you put into each post. I actually run AceHealth.org, a blog of my personal research and experiences. If you’re interested, I would love to have you on as a guest blogger. Please send me an e-mail: bob.mauer65(at)gmail(dot)com, and I can give you more information. Looking forward to hearing from you.

  5. You are a brave, brave man. Why am I not surprised that you came up with a unique plan to ensure you reach your goal? Hmmm… thinking, thinking. I’ll get back to you on this one. Promise. It might just take a while. Deal?

  6. Okay Martin, how about this: If you do the Frankfurt City Triathlon in less than three hours, I will:
    1. Look to the East, towards Germany, salute, and holler, “MARTIN IS DA MAN!”
    2. Send you a modest gift that will make you think of Minnesota, USA, and/or triathlon.

Now I don’ particularly like the thought that if you DON’T make the three hour time goal, you then lose the wager and owe me something. So how about we do it the other way…if you DO make your goal, you also do something similar to reciprocate?

    • Dear Scott,

now you made me think also. I believe a wager to be fair, yet I understand your reasoning. A reasoning, which shows some real interest and friendship. Or at least that is how I see it. Phewww, quite a task since I would like to answer this way too.

As such I offer in return:
      1. If I don’t do the Frankfurt City Triathlon below 3:00 hours, I will do a sprint or Olympic Triathlon in a TriSuit with “TriBomber honor team” written on front and back (Ill try to match the one you have by then).
      2. I will have a photo shot in decent quality verifying I did and have it sent it to you, preferably in poster size as well as a normal picture
      3. I will bow to the west when I finished that honor Triathlon and say: “In honor to your support and skill dear friend.”
      4. An additional photo series of 3. will be sent to you.

      How about that?

    • PS: If I do the Frankfurt City Triathlon in below 3:00 hours, I will still bow to the west and say: “Good to know you wished me godspeed”. I will also send you a surprise package of that Triathlon (nothing expensive or so, but something interesting to remember in the years to come).

  7. Cool. The wager is done!

  8. So it looks like we have the same goal. Under 3 Hours for an Olympic Distance. I got my new tri bike this year. Took 6 minutes off my time too!
August 7th will be here before you know it. When you break under 3 I will do a little dance, and send a little triathlon bling from Tennessee. You deserve it!

    • I HEARD YA! I wanna have a picture of you dancing! Please purrtty please? In return I owe you a dance once you hit below 3hours on olympic.

I truly believe swimming and biking to be a low to no issue. Running is my issue… Let’s see…

      Yours truly

  9. Wow, you really are an inspiration!! Ok so I am trying to quit smoking and have significant weight to lose. Finally someone that may understand the whole smoking struggle. My goal is to complete Peterborough 1/2 Ironman in July 2012, that is the “A” race. I’m up for a wager.. any ideas? I am Canadian, I could send you beer? no, that’s not gonna work.. maybe not a wager but exchange of a cool local tri/tech running gear like a shirt on completion of respective goals? i like win/win.

    • I am up for such a wager 🙂 – btw I liked the ho ho vid…

So let us do something cool, which only works over two continents with the sea between. How about: ….

Hold wait – I do not know anything about you. In fact i am not even sure if you are male or female. Gosh! We gotta correct that one first? How about you, your age, weight, smoign habits…? How extreme, difficult,… is it? If ya like and prefer it more private, drop me an email at

  10. email sent from my gmail account.. check your spam filter if it hasn’t arrvied. 🙂
